Overview of ozone-biological activated carbon technology

1.1 Ozone preoxidation


Ozone can oxidize and decompose some simple macromolecular organic matter in water, while oxidizing organic matter that is difficult to biodegrade into small molecular organic matter, improving its biodegradability, and making it easier to be adsorbed by activated carbon. In addition, ozone can be decomposed into oxygen, providing oxygen for aerobic microorganisms in the biological activated carbon filter, promoting biological oxidation and nitrification, and improving the service life of activated carbon.


1.2 Biological activated Carbon


Activated carbon has the characteristics of large specific surface area and high porosity, which can quickly adsorb dissolved organic matter in water and gather a large number of microorganisms in water. Therefore, the microorganisms gathered on the surface of activated carbon can take these dissolved organic matter as the nutrient source, and at the same time, a large number of aerobic microorganisms growing and propagating in the carbon bed can adsorb and degrade small molecular organic matter. In this way, a biofilm with dual functions of biological adsorption and oxidative degradation is formed on the surface of the activated carbon, which is called biological activated carbon. The microorganisms and activated carbon promote each other and form a relative equilibrium state, which significantly prolongates the regeneration cycle of activated carbon.


1.3 Ozone-biological activated carbon technology development and application status


Ozone-biological activated carbon technology as a new water purification technology system, by the combination of ozone oxidation and activated carbon, to build an intensive water purification mechanism. Through the chemical oxidation, sterilization and disinfection of ozone and the adsorption and degradation of activated carbon, the cleaning of harmful substances such as organic pollutants and chlorine by-products in water bodies is completed, and the chemical and biological stability of water resources is ensured to the greatest extent.


Compared with the traditional water purification process, ozone-biological activated carbon technology has higher treatment efficiency and lower use cost, which can fully meet the relevant requirements of the advanced treatment of water resources at the present stage, and realize the modernization and high efficiency of the water resources treatment system. Ozone-activated carbon technology was first proposed by Germany. In practical application, ozone and biological activated carbon show strong complementality. Ozone achieves rapid oxidation and decomposition of macromolecular organic matter in water, and the small molecular organic matter generated by decomposition is adsorbed by activated carbon.


According to the research results published by relevant research institutions, the combined application of ozone and biological activated carbon can complete the decomposition and adsorption of 90% of organic matter in sewage within 12 hours. This technical mechanism of ozone-biological activated carbon technology can undoubtedly effectively make up for the technical shortcomings of the past water resources advanced treatment technology in the purification of organic matter, and achieve significant improvement in the physical and chemical properties of water resources.


The role of ozone-biological activated carbon technology in water advanced treatment

The application of ozone-biological activated carbon technology in water advanced treatment has a great effect on the improvement of water turbidity, chroma and perception, and creates a good cognitive basis for the optimization of technology application strategies.


2.1 Improve water turbidity


The degree of water turbidity is directly related to the density of organic molecules in the water. Therefore, in the treatment of water turbidity, the staff need to choose appropriate purification technical means to accurately identify macromolecular organic compounds in the water and achieve scientific treatment of macromolecular organic compounds in the water. The application of ozone-biological activated carbon technology in water advanced treatment can break the steady state of organic molecules in water and improve the turbidity of water. Specifically, the oxidation capacity of ozone itself can continuously improve the removal efficiency of particles and turbidity in the filtration process. For example, ozone-biological activated carbon can quickly complete the decomposition and adsorption of macromolecular organic matter and small molecular organic matter in a short period of time, which ensures the purity of the water body and improves the level of in-depth treatment of water resources.


2.2 Improve the color of water


From past experience, the chroma of the water body can indicate the amount of soluble pollutants in the water to a large extent. Based on this internal connection, in the process of water purification, the staff can determine the main substances that affect the chroma of the water body at the present stage through the evaluation of chroma standards, including phenols, diazo and other substances, which are dissolved in the water body and make the water body color change. After ozone is injected into the water body, it decomposes the phenols and diazo in the water body into ketones and aldehydes with strong REDOX ability, and oxidizes the substances produced. These newly generated substances are colorless and can achieve chrominance improvement. The application of activated carbon in water purification has a strong adsorption capacity for benzene compounds and small molecule humus. Through the combined use of purification, macromolecular organic matter, small molecule organic matter and humus in water can be comprehensively purified.


2.3 Enhance the perception of water


The inorganic substances, soluble mineral salts, humus and chlorine contained in the water will affect the overall appearance and affect the actual drinking effect. Ozone-biological activated carbon technology, with the chemical oxidation of ozone, the physical chemical adsorption of activated carbon and the degradation of microorganisms, can complete the purification task of inorganic substances and other substances. The entire purification process, not only the difficulty of purification treatment is low, to meet the requirements of water resource perception treatment in different scenarios, and considering the relatively low cost of ozone, biological activated carbon, with strong practicability, can be large-scale promotion and application.
